Vietnamese muay fighters reach finals

The Vietnamese Muay martial artists defeated their rivals in the semi-finals to win tickets to compete in the finals on May 21.

VĨNH PHÚC — Vietnamese muay martial artists defeated their rivals in the semi-finals on May 21 to go through to the finals.

The event was held at Vĩnh Phúc Gymnasium in the northern province of Vĩnh Phúc.

In the women's 48kg category, with her determination, perseverance and skillful fighting style, Huỳnh Hà Hữu Hiếu beat Cheryl Gwa Ying of Singapore 30-27.

The next match was tense and dramatic, in the men's 57kg category between Nguyễn Doãn Long of Việt Nam and Chainarong Yawannophat of Thailand. The two fighters showed beautiful technique, but the final victory belonged to Long with 29 points, just one more than his Thai opponent.

In the women's 60kg division, Bàng Thị Mai confidently launched many powerful blows on April Joy La Madrid Pongchad of the Philippines. After three rounds, Mai defeated her Filippino opponent 30-27.

Meanwhile, Trương Cao Minh Phát beat Noy Huksamueang of Laos 30-27 in the men's 63.5kg event to reach the final.

In the women's 48kg, Kullanat Aonok of Thailand easily beat Rudzma Abuuakar of the Philippines, while in the men's 57kg, Kay Ketnouvong of Laos lost to Filipino Delarmino Deploma.

In the other matches, Sirosopa Sirisak of Thailand bested Tuon Sreyphin of Cambodia 30-27 in the 60kg, and Phearith Pao of Cambodia beat Norapat Khundam of Thailand in the men's 63.5kg division.

The finals will take place on May 22. — VNS
